Description

Singing in alternation is a long-standing custom within the Church, even from the days of the Psalmists. This form of singing proves helpful by providing a ‘break’ for the congregation so that: 1) an interpretive musical setting can give more theological insight for a particular text, and 2) the congregation may be relieved from lengthy physical singing (though they still sing with the mind as they follow along with what the choir is singing). Some of these settings may also be used as varied organ accompaniment for congregational singing (see pages 6 and 10, for example) since they rhythmically match the hymn tune. For all these reasons Salpidzo Press presents these choral settings of hymn stanzas for use in alternation with the congregation. May all be blessed in the singing and hearing of these settings!
